Guilt Free Mom Tip #11 Own it! Your “Good Mom” definition.
When we hear the term “good mom” I often wonder how all of our definitions may differ. One thing we may all agree on, is that when we first think of a ‘good mom,’ we immediately think it has everything to do with what she is to or does for her kids, her husband and her home. And while these things are important, they are quite limiting!
And if we start to measure the “good” of a mom by anything else, we tend to get thrown into a different category…like a “good woman” or a “good employee” or a “good wife, daughter in law, sister” which is not all encompassing either!
So…how about creating your OWN definition of a good “insert your name here”. “Good Meg” has everything to do with taking care of her kids’ and husband’s needs BUT also seeks to do great things at work, each day. “Good Meg” views “peace” as the ultimate success on a daily basis. “Good Meg” reaches out to good friends with regularity and seeks fun at any remotely feasible opportunity. “Good Meg” relies on her gut to guide her decisions and depends on her faith to achieve anything good in her life. These are just a few ideas that my definition includes about being a “Good Meg.”
What does your definition include?
Let’s not limit ourselves by desiring to be a good (or even great) mom, when that definition is owned and dictated by someone else? Own your own definition of what being good means to you!
